New York Auto Insurance

Every State has different laws regarding liability auto insurance. New York auto insurance laws state that by law, insurance has to be a minimum of $25,000/50,000 for injury, $50,000/100,000 for death, and $10,000 for property damages caused by any one accident. Keep in mind that as long as the registration is valid the coverage must be in effect.

Liability coverage must be New York State insurance coverage by a company authorized to do business in this state and licensed by the insurance department of New York State. If the auto is registered in this state, it must have New York State insurance coverage. There are no exceptions, and a registrant must have the liability coverage in that registered name. Should there be a lapse in insurance coverage, due to a name change, for instance, the driver's license of that registration and the registration itself is suspended.

To apply for vehicle registration in New York, an insurance identification card must be provided. The card must have the registrants name with bar code and must match the registration application. Otherwise you will not be granted a vehicle registration.

A no fault state, New York, this means when in a car accident, you do not have to wait for litigation to get medical expenses, incidental cost, or lost wages. They can received them without waiting for them. It doe not matter who is at fault.

In essence, an insurance company is required to pay the drivers, passengers and pedestrians involved in the accident up to $50,000.00 for their legitimate losses. There are serious time constraints regarding the ability to file claim for this, usually restricted to only 30 days and special forms are needed.

All forms need to filed with legitimate evidence of the medical expenses, loss of wages and so on. These will be thoroughly checked by the insurance company to avoid any fraud.
